SJI School District plays invaluable role | Letter

Dear Community,

I am a former student of the San Juan Island School District and can attest to the invaluable role it played in shaping my future. I am writing to express my wholehearted support for the upcoming San Juan Island

School District Capital and Technology Levy. In particular, I’d like to emphasize a component of this levy that underscores the importance of technology in today’s educational landscape.

Growing up on this island, I had the privilege of receiving an education from dedicated teachers and I had access to resources that enriched my learning experience. The strong foundation provided by SJISD not only helped me excel academically but also influenced my career path in mechanical engineering. It was through SJISD’s network that I secured a summer internship during my junior year of high school, at a local nano-fabrication company, Luxel Corporation, an experience that ultimately led me back to this community. I moved away to pursue my studies and returned after college to join the Luxel team, a testament to the quality education through SJISD and the community here on San Juan Island.

Fact #6 on the San Juan Island School District Capital and Technology Levy Fact Sheet highlights the

crucial role technology plays in preparing students for the future. In today’s rapidly evolving world, technology is not just a tool; it’s a necessity. The Capital and Technology Levy ensures that our schools can stay up-to-date with the latest educational technology, support staff training, and provide students with the skills and tools they need to thrive in the ever-changing workforce.

From computer replacement schedules to ongoing tech support and instructional programs, the levy’s focus on technology advancement is an investment in our children’s success and the future prosperity of our community. It is about equipping our teachers with the means to keep pace with technological advancements and ensuring our students have the knowledge necessary to compete and succeed.

As someone who has personally benefited from the quality education provided by SJISD, I firmly believe that supporting this levy is not just an investment ni our schools but a commitment to the continued growth and success of San Juan Island. It’s about preserving the legacy of excellence that this community has upheld for generations.

I encourage my fellow community members to review the levy fact sheet located on the SJISD website (located @ SJISD homepage>departments>business services), and join me in voting ‘Yes’ for the renewal of the San Juan Island School District Capital and Technology Levy on February 13, 2024. It’s important to remember this is not a new levy but a renewal of our community’s commitment to quality education. Together, we can ensure that our schools remain at the forefront of education and continue to inspire future generations.

Sincerely,

Brett Paul
