Regarding the need for animal control training in San Juan County | Letter

I took a moment to go through the SJC Sheriff’s Log from Sept. 21 to Oct. 22 to see what the number of animal-related calls were. There were 36.

There is one animal bite call, two vicious animal calls, eight sick or injured animal calls, and twenty-five animal at large calls.

Three were coded as “Active”, four as “Unfounded”, two “Inactive”, one “Closed” and the remainder “No Report”.

San Juan, Orcas and Lopez all had calls.

Thirty-six animal-related calls to the Sheriff’s office in one month.

Eric Peter supports animal control training for deputies while Krebs argues the numbers and statistics are not there. How many calls a month does it take to warrant animal control training? For me, 36 is more than enough. I’ll be voting for Eric Peter.
