The San Juan County Dem’s endorsement of incumbent county council members in a non-partisan race may actually bring a few voters across the aisle. Thanks, Ron, (“Their pot calling our kettle black”, Sept. 12, pg. 6).

Why vote for any incumbent who has been part of our recent county dilemmas? Better leaders could manage a budget and quit using each election to ask for tax hikes. Better leaders could run our county more efficiently and leave our money in our pockets.

Better leaders would have settled the solid waste issue (still not settled) without a half-million dollar study.

With better leadership our CAO issue would not be dictated by DOE and resolved years ago. With better leadership our ferry schedules would fit our needs as consumers.

Voters should consider leaders with business and financial backgrounds. Candidates who have experienced the quagmire of government related to business operation appreciate efficient government. Candidates who have managed employees and property have skills helpful to running our county government.

We need leaders who will lead our county and not give away control to state and federal agencies. Finally, we need leaders of the highest moral character, brave enough to make difficult decisions for our social and economic concerns.

The Carter years brought me across the aisle. What will it take for you?
