April 19 marks the 80th Anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Thousands died over several weeks of fighting in what was left of the ghetto which was shelled and burned to the ground. Most of my then remaining relatives, including resistance fighters, perished against impossible odds.
Regardless of what one may think about the appalling behavior of the current Israeli regime, all must look back and pay honor to the pain and heroism of those who fought in 1943. In the midst of the current unprecedented explosion of virulent antisemitism in this country coupled with widespread Holocaust denial, we cannot forget where evil beliefs and lies may lead undermining freedom for all of us.
