The Toy Box relocates and expands

Just in time for the holiday season, The Toy Box, formerly located on 175 First Street near the Whale Museum, is in its new location at 20 First Street, near the top of the ferry landing. The shop officially opened its new location.

With toys nestled on their new shelves, a grand opening ribbon cutting took place on Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. The San Juan Island Chamber Executive Director Becki Day and Chamber Board members congratulated owner Jackie Pitman at the ribbon cutting on the grand opening.

“Things have gone pretty well so far. There was a pretty good crowd for Black Friday,” Store Manager Jimmie Williams said.

The Toy Box was founded by Nancy Buechner in the 90s. Jackie Pitman bought the store in 2021. Recently she began looking for a spot with a more central location closer to the ferry. Increased space was also key.

Goals for the future include upping the inventory of environmentally friendly products like toys made from recycled materials.

The Toy Box is participating in Chardonnay Shopping Dec. 7, and other events are in the works. “Hopefully everyone can come by and check us out,” Williams said.
