The letter last week by the Lambrights and Holts regarding Senate Bill 5688 and House Bill 1727 made us realize that we do indeed need to contact our representatives, to assure them of our support for these bills that would extend equal rights to gays in domestic partnerships.

The San Juan Islands Museum of Art re-opens May 25 in the historic Brown House on the corner of West and First streets, Friday Harbor.
According to the National Park Service, the Brown House originated at Fort Bellingham in the 1850s and was disassembled and moved to American Camp during the joint military occupation of 1859-1872. The National Park plans to return the building to American Camp at some point.

It’s taken 18 months of researching and planning, but the Shared Care program is now available on the islands. And we think it’s a great thing. Shared Care is a regional service based in Bellingham. It is operated through PeaceHealth, which operates St. Joseph’s Hospital and proposes building a hospital on San Juan Island. This year’s Silver Tea, an annual event of the San Juan Historical Society, will be historic on two levels. First, the tea will be held in the King Farmhouse — the first event in the 1894 farmhouse since it was placed on a new foundation. Second, the event features a quilt show in the resource center — an exhibit of quilts from the museum’s collection, some dating to the late 1800s.
