Wolverines’ basketball teams make the playoffs

FH Wolverines Boys and Girls Basketball hosted the Coupeville Wolves for a first league playoff game at Turnbull Gym on Feb.12. The winner will advance to the beginning of the state playoffs.

The Wolverine Varsity Boys played first having a very slow start and allowing the Wolves to get a good lead in points in the first quarter. With 4:43 left in the second quarter the Wolverines began to score some points with Wolverines at 11 and the Wolves at 16. In the third quarter the Wolverines began scoring some serious points to catch up to the Wolves. With the start of the fourth quarter the score was at Wolverine 29 Wolves 32. The Wolverines at 4:39 left in the game stood at 35 and the Wolves 36. The game began to get very exciting with the score so close. The Wolverine’s picked up the pace in scoring and surpassed the Wolves.

With 2:28 left on the clock the Wolverines, for the first time took the lead, with 39 and the Wolves 36.With 1:08 on the clock the Wolverines still held the lead with 39 the Wolves at 38.

At :14 seconds the Wolverine’s had scored keeping the lead at 42, however the Wolves got the ball and made a free throw and a three pointer bringing the score to a tie at 42-42.

The Wolverines had possession of the ball, and called a time out in their court with only a few seconds on the clock. From the sideline, Wolverine #11 Kaden Horn put the ball into play with a pass to a totally open #0 Mamadoo Hoskins near the basket who laid it up and in for 2 points! Game over and a win for the Wolverines with 44 to Wolves 42!

The Wolverine Girls Varsity started out with a fast scoring run on the Wolves. With 1:37 left in the first quarter the Wolverines had 13 the Wolves 3. The Triple Towers of Lola Clark, Vera Schoultz, and Ila Allen were scoring underneath and Caylee Morton, Atziry Orozco Jimenez, Harper Feliz and Lyla Ovenell scoring from underneath and outside. The Wolverines held the lead thru out the game. The Wolves during the fourth quarter had a scoring surge, bringing their score to 40 with the Wolverines at 43. With just seconds left on the clock the Wolverines scored underneath for two points. Excitement builds!! As the Wolves were putting the ball back into play Wolverine #3 Caylee Morton stole the ball and raced to the basket for another two points! The Wolverine Girls Varsity took the win 47 to Wolves 40.
