Submitted by Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
For over 40 years, Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center has been a trusted center for rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife from all islands of the Salish Sea. This remarkable legacy was built by our dedicated founders, countless staff, tireless volunteers and generous supporters; all united by a shared love for the wild creatures with which we share our island home.
Today, Wolf Hollow enters a new era, one of restoration, renewal and continued commitment to its founding mission.
Transformation
Over the past year, the organization has undergone several transitions. This is normal when an organization has been in service over a long period of time. Adapting to an ever-changing world is part of the process. When the field of wildlife rehabilitation was young, so was Wolf Hollow. Many scientific developments have occurred in this discipline over the past 40 years. It is a whole new world. The executive director, in coordination with the board and other stakeholders such as the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and NOAA, acted to protect the future of Wolf Hollow and the wildlife it serves. Those actions have resulted in what we can now confidently call a new beginning, while honoring our roots.
A repaired facility, a thriving team, a continued mission
Today, Wolf Hollow’s facility is repaired and fully operational. A fresh team of highly trained wildlife technicians and a cohort of dedicated summer interns are actively caring for animals each day. They provide skilled treatment and gentle rehabilitation for eagles, fawns, foxes, owls and many more. The team also works diligently to educate islanders on how to live with wildlife with minimal impact and help wildlife when needed. The center is open seven days a week to assist during those difficult encounters with wildlife in distress. Wildlife rescue continues. Animals in need are arriving daily. If you find a wild animal in distress, call the center right away at 360-378-5000.
Calling in the community
As we diligently continue this life-saving work, we extend our deepest gratitude to those who built this organization and invite everyone, longtime supporters or newly inspired friends, to be part of the amazing future for all of our island wildlife. This is a warm invitation to come together in preserving our shared purpose for the well-being of island wildlife: to reinvest, to continue to care, to help shape the next frontier of this essential community service.
What has happened and what is ahead:
• A revitalized, repaired facility.
• Thriving, talented staff and enthusiastic interns providing expert care.
• Continued wildlife intakes and successful releases.
• Adoption of top-tier wildlife rehabilitation techniques and treatments.
• Improvements to rehabilitation enclosures.
• Expansion of species-specific enclosures.
• The Education Van Project, bringing wildlife learning directly to the community.
• A community-centered fall event.
Let this be a season of restoration, not just for wildlife, but for community, collaboration and shared stewardship.
