Friday Harbor Town Council regular meeting of July 3
In the absence of Mayor Ray Jackson, Council Member Barbara Starr chaired the meeting. Council Members Anna Marie Frietas and Mason Turnage were absent.
Three people made public comments about San Juan Community Home Trust projects. Karl Eberhard, Argyle Affordable Housing project manager, asked the Town Council to schedule a hearing with the Home Trust to review the Argyle development agreement. Amanda Lynn, executive director, and Paul Fischburg, Board president, asked the Council to take leadership on the Argyle Project and on solving the Holliwalk site plan issues.
Community Development & Planning will send out letters to all restaurants affected by the draft Fats, Oils and Grease Ordinance requesting public comment. The public hearing on this ordinance will be continued at the Aug. 7 Council meeting.
The Town administrator went to the Association for Washington Cities conference and found it very helpful, especially a session on the Problems with Tourism presented by the mayors of Leavenworth and Port Angeles. She encouraged Council members to attend in the future. She is on the Board of Small Cities (less than 5,000 people).
In a few weeks, the Water Distribution team will replace a water main on Tuesday Way. There will be a preconstruction meeting on July 8 for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade, which is funded by the USDA Rural Development Program and the Washington Department of Ecology. Sunken Park renovations funded by the Washington Recreation Conservation Office grant for $100,000 are complete. The gazebo was repaired, and the boardwalk and wooden railings were replaced.
Planner Ruta Bertulis is resigning to pursue an architecture license.
