San Juan Community Theatre is delighted to announce that Seattle-based Intimacy Director Ian Bond will be hosting two theatrical intimacy workshops at the theatre on Saturday, Jan. 22.

These two workshops will discuss intimacy best practices used in the theatre to create safer spaces and more exciting stories. The first workshop, Theatrical Intimacy Best Practices, is from 12-3 p.m. and is open to all. This workshop will focus on the foundations of consent culture within a theatrical context. Participants will learn how to establish boundaries in a theatrical space, advocate for their needs in collaborative work, and employ these skills in their next project.

The second workshop, Creating Supportive Space, is from 3-5 p.m. and is geared toward directors and stage managers. During this workshop, participants will incorporate techniques and methods that create supportive spaces into their own style of directing. Time will be spent discussing script breakdown, auditions and casting, developing a consent-based rehearsal room, navigating conflict, and working with and without an intimacy director.

Both workshops are free, but registration is required. Pizza will be provided for participants staying for the second workshop. To learn more about both workshops and to register, visit our website scjtheatre.org or call our Box Office at (360)-378-3210. Please note San Juan Community Theatre’s Covid-19 guidelines before your arrival. Details can be found at sjctheatre.org/covid-policies.
