Bune, Cuomo finish first as Wolverines top Orcas | Golf

Friday Harbor’s Quinn Bune bested blustery conditions and a field of seven Vikings to claim first place as Wolverines hosted their inter-rivals in a head-to-head match up, Thursday, at San Juan Golf and Country Club.

Bune shot 43 over nine holes to clinch the match medal, finishing six strokes ahead of runner up Miles McCloskey of Orcas, who tallied a 49.

Friday Harbor sophomore Riley Rousar posted a 51 to finish two strokes behind McCloskey and in third place, one stroke ahead of the Vikings’ Chase Drake, who shot a 52 to finish fourth among a field of nine golfers competing in the men’s division.

In the women’s division, Friday Harbor senior Megan Coumo finished the nine-hole course in 47 strokes in running away with the win. Freshman Kendra Meeker posted a 50 to finish in second place and a sturdy 11 strokes ahead of third-place finisher Julia Brady of Orcas.

Friday Harbor freshman Devan Rousar took fourth, with a 64, and had the shot-of-the-day, according to Wolverines’ Coach Jack Rick. Her tee-shot on the par-three third hole came to rest six inches from the cup, just a half-foot away from a hole in one.

Rousar sank the putt to notch the first birdie of her high school career.
