Too little and, perhaps more importantly, too late.

A furious fourth-quarter rally wasn’t enough to erase another ice-cold shooting performance by the Wolverines. But they gave league-leading La Conner all it could handle in the final period before coming up just short in a 31-27 loss Friday on the road.

Down by double-digits after three quarters of play, Friday Harbor stormed back into the game in the final eight minutes of regulation, outscoring the Braves 10-3 down the stretch.

The Wolverines shaved an 11-point deficit down to four but couldn’t close the gap by the time the final buzzer sounded.

“We outscored them in the fourth quarter but they went on a 7-0 run at the end of the third,” Friday Harbor Head Coach Eric Jangard said. “That was too much for us to overcome.”

It was the third-straight game in which the Wolverines shot under 30 percent from the field as a team. They managed to knock down only 11 shots from the field in each and lost the three by a combined total of 11 points.

“If you can’t shoot over 30 percent, you’re not going to win many games,” Jangard said. “The girls’ attitudes are great and they haven’t gotten down. They’re frustrated, as all of us are, and tired of losing. We just need to shoot the ball better.”

Friday Harbor sophomore Maggie Anderson tallied 13 points to lead all scores while fellow sophomore Kelsey Barnes chipped in five and freshman Liz Taylor added four.

The Wolverines fell to 1-5 in league and 2-8 overall.
