Celebrating the release of their new album, “If You’re Going to Be a Bear,” L.A.-based indie-folk duo Oliviero will play live at 7 pm. at the Rumor Mill on Wednesday, May 18.

“Oliviero brings an unforgettable style … delivering a sound that spans from the vulnerabilities of quiet acoustic ballads to the epic soundscapes of cinematic and bombastic indie-rock,” organizers say. “The duo is a namesake project of Mike Oliviero, a Maine-born songwriter, producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist whose idiosyncratic brand of experimental indie-folk is an exploration of sound and emotion.

Oliviero’s live set is as versatile as its songs and sounds and is equally at home in the loud cacophony of indie-rock venues as it is in the intimate rooms of house concerts and singer/songwriter venues. Built upon a foundation of strong songwriting, Oliviero has multiple arrangements of all of its songs that span from the vulnerabilities of quiet acoustic ballads to the epic soundscapes of cinematic and bombastic indie-rock.”

On this tour, Oliviero will perform in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas and Utah.

Oliviero has shared the stage with national touring acts in the LA market at venues like Hotel Cafe, Harvelle’s, The Dragonfly, Good Hurt, Room 5, and TRiP, has toured north to the Bay Area, and performed in Maine. In 2011, Mike Oliviero was awarded a fellowship by the David Wilcox Fellowship Program.

“Every now and then, an artist turns up with that “spark” – that little something that you want to know them better,” says Izzy Maxwell, Musician/Producer/Engineer/Product Manager of Izotope. “Oliviero is one of those artists and one of those bands. He is a compelling singer, songwriter and sound designer with a nuance that will stick with you for a long time. “If You’re Going to Be a Bear” is a brilliant album worth listening to repeatedly. This is an artist to contend with. “
