Getting the New Year off to an island start, Jacksons Beach was packed with runners, walkers and swimmers the morning of Jan. 1. Sun and mild temperatures held out for the crowd, but fires were still lit for swimmers to warm themselves next to after the dip.

When asked if they would join in the swim, an older couple replied quite definitely “No,” with the man adding “I think my arms and legs would fall off if I did!”

Meanwhile, already in the water, a pair of swimmers joyfully waved for the camera, but shouted “We are freezing!”
