The San Juan Dragons overwhelmed Skagit Valley at home Saturday, firing 36 shots on goal en route to a 15-5 win.

The Dragons (1-1), which have two All-State players — one of them one of the best goalies in Division II — were arguably the favorites over Skagit Valley (0-3), a scrappy but young team that has been winless in 15 games.

The Dragons faced a bigger challenge the day before, against Cascade Conference’s Lynnwood, and lost that test 12-6 (the Dragons managed 14 shots on goal that game).

Saturday, San Juan jumped out to a 6-0 first-quarter lead. By the end of the game, Forest Dayton and Ryan Guard each had 4 goals as the Dragons evened their record at 1-1-0 on the season.

Brendan McGoffin led Skagit Valley’s five scorers with a goal and an assist and goaltender Jordan Johnson had 17 saves in the net in the loss.

SCORING HIGHLIGHTS: San Juan 15, Skagit Valley 5 (Forest Dayton, SJ, 4 goals, 3 assists; Ryan Guard, SJ, 4 goals, 2 assists; Brendan McGoffin, SV, 1 goal, 1 assist; Jordan Johnson, SV, 17 saves).

NEXT: The Dragons face Stanwood (1-0) at Stanwood on March 23, then host Whatcom on March 27.
