The Friday Harbor Wolverines suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in a 49-7 runaway loss Oct. 1 at Lynden Christian.

Friday Harbor, trailing by 21 midway near the end of the second quarter, tallied its only touchdown of the game on a 8-yard run by sophomore quarterback Donny Galt. That’s as close, however, as the Wolverines would come to clawing their way back into the contest.

On the very next play, the Lyncs bumped the lead back up to 21 as senior Michael Vree returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a TD in the waning moments of the opening half.

Head Coach Darrin Scheffer was wary of Lynden Christian’s experience and size going into the game. Those fears proved well-founded. Friday Harbor (1-4) managed just 69 yards on 31 carries, while the Lyncs amassed nearly 250 rushing yards of their own.

A rash of turnovers didn’t help the Wolverines’ chances either. The Lyncs repeatedly snuffed out any opportunity Friday Harbor had of whittling down the deficit by picking off six passes over the course of the game.
