Kendall (Ken) Haskins | Passages

Kendall (Ken) Haskins passed away peacefully on July 11, 2022, at Lighthouse Memory Care in Anacortes, Washington. He was 78.

Ken grew up in Windsor, California where he attended Santa Rosa High School and Junior College. He earned a Soil Science degree from Cal Poly Tec in San Luis Obisbo. Ken joined the Peace Corps in 1967 and spent 2 years in India where he acquired a lifelong appreciation of foreign languages, people, and cultures.

Ken moved to Friday Harbor in 1975 with his wife Anne and baby Jonas. Their daughter Anna was born the following year at the clinic on the island. Ken spent the next 40 years building custom homes on San Juan Island. He prided himself on getting each home perfectly square and plumb. He had many stories about the good old days of construction in Friday Harbor. A favorite is while building the Presbyterian Church, the excavator Richard Lawson hit solid rock. So Richard told Ken to “go down the street and hold traffic” and then proceeded to set off a big blast of dynamite.

Ken is survived by his wife of 50 years Anne, his son Jonas Haskins (wife Megan Haskins), grandchildren Ruby and Ronan Haskins, daughter Anna Vaught (husband Fredrick Vaught), and grandchildren Flora and Autumn Vaught.

A celebration will be held this fall, date TBA.
