The Friday Harbor Salmon Classic kicked off on Friday, Dec. 2 through Saturday, Dec. 3. It’s a not-for-profit event with proceeds going to salmon enhancement organizations and Salmon for Soldiers. This derby is part of the Northwest Salmon Derby Series.

Now in its second year, it is organized by Jimmie Lawson, after local fisherman learned the Resurrection Derby was moved from Friday Harbor to Anacortes.

First prize is $15,000, second prize is $5,000 and third prize is $2,500. Each tournament boat cost $550 to enter. Participants must moor at the Friday Harbor Marina and fish only in the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Marine Area 7.

Boats leave Friday Harbor’s main pier at 7:30 a.m. and catches are weighed in by sundown, each day.
