Join The Whale Museum on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. for a lecture presented by Brad Hanson of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries. The talk is FREE and open to the public.

This presentation will review prior work by NOAA Fisheries and its collaborators in understanding the role of health as a risk factor that is complicating the recovery of SRKWs. Current research with our partners at the Sea Doc Society and San Diego Zoological Alliance will highlight how we are trying to adapt new technologies and diagnostic tools to the challenges associated with monitoring the health of these free-ranging cetaceans.

Hanson is an ecologist and studies the diet, habitat use, and health of Southern Resident killer whales. He joined the Northwest Fisheries Science Center in April of 2003. Previously, Hanson worked as a Wildlife Biologist at the National Marine Mammal Laboratory in Seattle, Washington. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Washington where he worked on the development of improved tag attachment systems for small cetaceans. He also holds an M.S. in Fisheries from the University of Washington and a B.A. in Zoology also from the University of Washington.
