Playwrights Festival 2019

Submitted by San Juan Community Theatre

San Juan Community Theatre’s 2019 Playwrights Festival offers the Island’s writers an opportunity to present their work on the local stage and offers both new and veteran playwrights an opportunity to develop and strengthen their skills. Festival performances of new works created by Islanders will take place Sept. 19 through Sept. 29 in SJCT’s Gubelman Theatre.

Registration is open to all San Juan Island Residents. Workshops, readings and mentoring will be available for registered participants, beginning March 10 until the deadline for submitting completed scripts, July 15 (see attached schedule). Stage time permitting, scripts meeting minimum requirements (see guidelines below) may be fully staged during the evening performances or performed in a matinee reader’s theatre during the festival.

Playwrights are not required to participate in the development program to submit scripts for consideration. Scripts will be presented anonymously to a committee comprised of theatre professionals for review and recommendations on which plays should be fully staged. Each playwright may submit up to two scripts, however no more than one script per playwright will be staged or performed on book.
