Join a global “Thriller” dance this Halloween

The “evil of the thriller” returns to Friday Harbor this October for the third year. Join a global tribute to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28 at Brickworks. Registration starts at 2:30 p.m. and the dance begins at 3 p.m.

“People join from all parts of the country, all over the world,” said organizer Krista Strutz.

It costs $5 per person to join and zombie makeup will be available. The event, sponsored by Spring Street International School’s theater class, will also include a bake sale and awards. All proceeds benefit Boo-Boos’s boxing club for at-risk women and girls’ fitness and well-being. The club is located in San Juan Island Fitness, but non-members can join.

Learn the dance throughout October at the San Juan Community Theatre’s Performing Arts Resource Center, at 70 Salt Spring Rd., off Beaverton Valley Road. Free, hour-long workshops are at 11:30 a.m., Sundays and 5:15 p.m., Thursdays.

“If you don’t know how to dance, that’s OK, because you are a zombie,” said Strutz.

There will also be a flash mob on Halloween in the Rose Lane neighborhood. For information, visit Thrill the World Friday Harbor on Facebook.
