Islanders celebrate tree lighting | Slideshow

The rain stopped long enough for approximately 200 islanders to get in the Christmas spirit on Friday, Dec. 1, as the San Juan Singers and Friday Harbor Elementary School students sang carols at Circle Park for the annual Island Lights Festival.

“All I want for Christmas is my two ‘fwont teef’,” belted the children, accompanied by music teacher Steve Moore, playing guitar, as the crowd laughed. Riptide Cafe served hot chocolate and treats to keep attendees warm.

“Alright, Santa, where are you?” asked Becki Day, executive director of Friday Harbor Chamber of Commerce. Right on cue, Santa made his way through the crowd. Tree lights were lit, while everyone cheered.

Everyone headed to Brickworks for soup, gifts and a photo op for children with Santa. Watch a slideshow of the event, below.
