Free community seminar: Food – Eat Healthy for Less Money

Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor will hold its annual free life skills seminar on Saturday, Feb. 9, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at San Juan Island Grange #966, 152 First St. North.

This year’s topic is “FOOD: Eat Healthy for Less Money.” It will include short sessions on the latest nutrition; how to use staple foods as a foundation for a healthy diet; tips on budgeting; how to navigate grocery shopping reading food labels; a brief look at sprouting and window box gardening; an overview of county resources related to food; a cooking demonstration and tasting; and a chance for participants to share their ideas and experiences.

The seminar is open to all county residents; no registration is required. Participants will receive a free cookbook with their choice of English or Spanish translation, as well as handouts from presenters.
