Co-ops in the San Juan Islands are teaming up to celebrate National Co-op Month.

OPALCO, San Juan Island Food Co-op and Orcas Food Co-op are hosting member appreciation events this month to celebrate the benefits of co-ops.

As member-owned and member-controlled businesses, cooperatives commit to meeting the needs of their members and building stronger communities. Cooperatives strengthen the local economy, generate local jobs, and are committed to giving back to the island communities.

OPALCO:

Friday Harbor: Oct. 18, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.

Lopez: Oct. 24, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Orcas: Oct. 25, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.

San Juan Island Food Co-op:

Open house: Oct. 12, 6:30–8 p.m.

Wellness consultations: Oct. 16–20

Soil composition workshop: Oct. 23–24

Plus, all goods produced by other co-ops are on sale all month.

Orcas Food Co-op :

Three-percent Thursday: Oct.19

Open house: Oct. 20, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Fabulous fermentation: Oct. 22, 3-5 p.m.
