Basketball wrap up – boys win district and girls end post season

After several delays due to snow and hazardous driving conditions, the Tri-District finally wrapped up with the Friday Harbor Wolverines winning the districts 2018-2019 boys basketball championship.

The Wolverines Boys defeated Seattle Lutheran Feb. 16, in a nail-biting game that ended with a tie. The game was forced into overtime, where the Wolverines scored a winning point to finish the game, 66-63.

“They have worked hard to achieve some goals they have set for themselves. Saturday they showed some great poise and ability to make plays when they needed to, to get the win,” coach Rodney Turnbull said.

The Wolverines played Tumwater High School on Saturday, Feb. 23, where they faced off against Kalama. The Wolverines lost 43-62, ending the team’s season.

The Lady Wolverines played a close game against the Orcas Island Lady Vikings Feb. 16 and came away with a 44-40 win. Monday, Feb. 18, the girls faced the Auburn Adventist. The teams were also neck and neck, however, in the end, the Wolverines lost 55-50, finishing the girls postseason run.

“It was a good season all in all,” coach Fred Woods said. “We played some tough games, and I think our record shows the strength of the girls.”
