Audition for “The Pirates of Penzance” at San Juan Community Theatre!

Submitted by the San Juan Community Theatre

San Juan Community Theatre is thrilled to announce auditions for their upcoming spring musical, “The Pirates of Penzance.” This classic Gilbert and Sullivan operetta has been enchanting audiences for over a century with its witty lyrics and catchy tunes. Auditions for the show will be on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. at SJCT’s PARC facility at 70 Saltspring Drive.

SJCT is in search of talented actors and singers to make this beloved story come to life on stage. Prepare 16-32 bars (which is roughly a verse and chorus) from any Light Operetta musical of a similar style, such as HMS “Pinafore” or “Yeoman of the Guard.” Choose a song that suits your voice range. There will be no accompanist for this audition; please bring a backing track for your audition song. In addition, choreography will be taught on-site, so be ready to move. Detailed audition information including a general rehearsal schedule and character breakdowns can be found at https://sjctheatre.org/get-involved/auditions. If you cannot attend but still want to audition, please email director Nathan Kessler-Jeffrey at nathan@sjctheatre.org.

“The Pirates of Penzance” follows the story of Frederic, a young man who was mistakenly apprenticed to a band of pirates as a child. When he turns 21, he decides to leave the pirates and embark on a new life. Along the way, he falls in love with Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley. However, their romance is threatened by the pirates who are determined to keep Frederic as one of their own.

Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this exciting production! Whether you’re an experienced performer or new to the stage, SJCT is eager to see what you can bring to the show. Mark your calendar for Jan. 13 and get ready to audition for “The Pirates of Penzance.”
