Ownership of San Juan Safaris changes hands

New owner Brian Goodremont is no stranger to the whale and wildlife watching business. In fact, Goodremont joined San Juan Safaris back in 1997, just two years after the company was founded.

San Juan Safaris has a new husband and wife team at the helm.

Bill Wright and Colleen Johansen announced the recent sale of San Juan Safaris Whale Watch & Wildlife Tours to Brian and Rachel Goodremont of Friday Harbor.

Founded in 1995, with only three touring kayaks at the time, San Jan Safaris initially operated out of Roche Harbor, but by 2007 had expanded its operations to Friday Harbor as well. The locally based company boasts 30 employees.

Goodremont is no stranger to San Juan Safaris. In fact, he began his tenure with the company two years after it opened, ascending through the ranks to become operations manager, a position he held until purchasing San Juan Safari’s Roche Harbor operation in 2008, and renaming it San Juan Island Outfitters.

Under Goodermont, San Juan Island Outfitters has expanded to offer three-hour and five-hour kayak tours, as well overnight kayak-camping excursions as well. The company also offers kayak rentals, paddle board rentals and small boat rentals.

Based in Friday Harbor, San Juan Safaris is headquartered in the building below Downriggers Restaurant. It offers daily whale watching and wildlife tours from April through October, and by appointment as well.
