Vikings battle with Wolverines

Girls

The Wolverines girls basketball team faced the Vikings on their home turf of the Orcas Island School District gym on Thursday, Jan. 26. For the first half, the score was within two points of each other. By half-time, the teams were neck-and-neck, tied with a score of 23-23. By the third quarter, the Wolverines fans watched in dismay as the Vikings kept scoring, ending the quarter with a six-point lead of 36-31. The Vikings maintained that lead despite a valiant effort by the Wolverines and with, three minutes left in the fourth quarter, the score was 44-36. The final score of this intense game was 45-39. It was a physical game from start to finish with strong plays by both teams. The gym was packed with zealous fans from Friday Harbor and Orcas Island.

Boys

The Wolverines boys team was ready from the get-go for a hard-fought game against Orcas. The Vikings kept a small but steady lead from the beginning. The score was 14-9 with two minutes left in the first quarter. By the end of the fourth quarter, Orcas had moved ahead about 10 points with a 57-48 score. The Vikings won 63-53 with the gym erupting in cheers from excited Orcas fans.
