Twice as nice: Wolverines clinch berth in regional post-season play | Prep basketball

In a pair of elimination playoff games, the Friday Harbor boys basketball team defeated La Conner 48-29 to advance in post-season play, and the girls team secured a bid at regionals with a 47-33 victory over Orcas, Saturday, at Sedro Woolley High School.

Two teams. Two “do-or-die” playoff contests… two victories.

The boys and girls Friday Harbor basketball teams each clinch a berth in regional post-season and kept the pursuit of a state tournament bid alive with back-to-back victories in finale of their respective 2B district playoffs, Saturday, Feb. 21, at Sedro Woolley High School.

The Friday Harbor boys (18-5) ran away with a decisive 48-29 win over La Conner to claim a slot in the regional playoffs, Feb. 27-28, and avenge a 3-point loss to the Braves that cost them sole possession of the Northwest 2B/1B League title. The Wolverines opponent and the location of their regional tournament opener has yet to be determined.

The girls team (15-6) clinched a berth at regionals with an equally convincing 47-33 victory over Orcas, win No. 3 by the Wolverines in four meetings against their inter-island rival this season. Their opponent and the location of their regional opener has yet to be determined.
