Steenkolk scores TD, East prevails in annual gridiron all-star game

Steenkolk earned the starting nod at the fullback position for the West and, along with a TD, carried the ball four times in the first half.

Friday Harbor High School football standout Nathan Steenkolk scored one of the West all-stars team’s two first-half touchdowns in the annual Earl Barden Classic, June 21, in Yakima.

The East all-stars bounced back from a 12-7 second quarter deficit, however, shutout the West in the second-half, to tally a 27-12 victory in the annual summer prep football classic, which pits select players from the east and west sides of the Washington state against one another, to snap a three-year win streak by the West.

Steenkolk, a 2014 Friday Harbor High School graduate and among the Wolverines all-time leading rushers, earned the starting nod at the fullback position for the West and, along with a TD, carried the ball four times in the first half. He is bound for Western Oregon University in the fall.
