The San Juan Dragons lacrosse team’s annual spaghetti dinner fund-raiser is March 11, 5-7:30 p.m., at the San Juan Island Grange Hall.

“We promise good food for a great cause,” the team said in an e-mail. “We will be having our famous dessert auction at 6:30.”

Adult tickets are $12, children $8. Tickets are available through any high school lacrosse player, at the door, or call Sandi Guard at 378-5228.

“It’s a great way to have dinner with the family before sports awards at the high school. Please come and support our hard-working lacrosse team and coach and have a great time.”

Coach Rob Cuomo is 13-9, 13-11 overall, with two playoff appearances in two seasons. The Dragons finished the 2009 season with their best record ever, 8-4, and tied for second in the Skagit Conference. Attackman Forest Dayton, a senior this year, was the seventh-leading scorer in the four-conference, 28-team Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association Division II. During the regular season, he had 38 goals and 14 assists, as well as 58 ground balls. Goalie Calen Mehrer, also a senior this year, was one of the best goalies in WHSBLA Division II. He had 125 saves of 198 shots, for a save percentage of .631.

“Next year is going to be the brightest year for the Dragons,” four-year attackman Isaac Taylor predicted at the end of the 2009 season, before departing for commercial diving school at Louisiana Technical College. “They’re only going to be losing four guys (to graduation). The junior class is where the power is.”

Those juniors are now seniors.
