Skagit Transit eliminates free transfers

Did you read the article in the Journal last month, “From SeaTac to the ferry on a shoestring,” describing a way to get from the airport to the Anacortes ferry terminal for $3.50? Did it seem too good to be true?

Well, it was. Or, rather, it is now.

On Jan. 2, Skagit Transit stopped giving out free transfers on its bus routes. In other words, each time you change buses you will be asked to pay another fare.

That means if you are foolish enough to attempt the route described in December’s article, you’ll now be paying a total of $4 if you’re a senior and about $9 if you’re under 65.

But that’s still a screamin’ deal, right?
