Kyle Louis Copps | Passages

Sadly, we announce Kyle Louis Copps, a lifelong resident of Mount Vernon, WA, passed away in his home on Nov. 20 at the age of 50.

He was born in Mount Vernon to Gary and Laura (Sullivan) Copps. Kyle was an avid hunter, a passion he cherished from a young age. He was most at home in the woods, a place where he found solace and a deep connection to the natural world. His family will forever cherish his many stories from the hunts he shared with close friends and family. We will also remember the strength and peace he displayed while spending time in nature. He took great pride in teaching his sons, Kain and Colt, the extraordinary skills he acquired during his short time with us.

Kyle also loved being on the water. Some of his happiest memories were fishing with family on his dad’s boat off the shores of San Juan Island. Those days were filled with salty air, the thrill of the catch, and Kyle’s unforgettable laugh—a sound that could light up the whole boat. These moments of joy will forever be treasured by the friends and family who were lucky enough to share them with him.

The rare times Kyle wasn’t outdoors, he could be found helping friends and family with anything asked of him—especially if the project required the use of his chainsaws. Kyle’s ability to love deeply, his sense of humor, and his passion for nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Kyle is survived by his mother, Laura Bentz, and father, Gary Copps; stepfather, Donnie Bentz; partner in life, Emily Ellis; his children, Kain Copps-Collins, Colt Ellis, and Paisley Copps; and his younger siblings, Danielle Curry-Copps and Justin Bentz.

A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Park in Mount Vernon, WA on Saturday, May 23 at 3 p.m., where we look forward to celebrating Kyle’s life and sharing the stories that enriched the lives of all who knew and loved him. Please sign the online guest register at www.hawthornefh.com.
