Womens’ Fund awards $9,500 in grants to island organizations

The Womens’ Fund of the San Juan Island Community Foundation’s 2011 grant program awarded $9,500 to various organizations on San Juan Island including the Friday Harbor Food, Senior Services Council, SJI Family Resource Center, SJI EMT Injury Prevention, SJI Community Foundation and many more.

Bank $2,000 for immediate funding for operational needs; Senior Services Council $1,500 to cover a shortfall for the In-Home Assistance Registered Nurse Coordinator’s salary; SJI Family Resource Center $1,000 for the Read to Your Child 20 Minutes a Day program; SJI EMT

Injury Prevention $1,200 for participation of the Air Lift and Medical Center organizations for

Every 15 Minutes education; SJICF Scholarship Fund $1,200 for three San Juan Island people

for Certified Nurse’s Assistants career training scholarships; STEAM Arts Initiative $1,200 for art supplies; Dollars for Scholars $100, for website development; and SJI Community Foundation $1,300 for their General Operation Fund.

The WF is comprised of more than 80 individual women, each of who donate at least $100 per year, and reviews grant proposals from nonprofit organizations before voting to award money.
