Local non-profit Whale Scout will be hosting a beach clean-up of the Land Bank’s Third Lagoon Preserve this Saturday, July 25, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and invites anyone to join.

This is one of their three Helpin’ Out events this summer. They’ll be out there picking up the plastic debris that has accumulated on the beaches. From the newsletter:

“Third Lagoon offers a unique habitat for wildlife on San Juan Island. Unfortunately over time the preserve has accumulated decades worth of plastic debris from the ocean. If not removed, these plastics and microplastics break down and can be ingested by wildlife including fish that us humans and whales consume. Scientists are discovering that these plastics also bind with dangerous chemicals making the problem even worse. Come help clean up Third Lagoon and save wildlife with your friends!”
