Voter registration deadline nears

The deadline to register to vote — either by mail or online — is Jan. 16, for the Feb. 14 special election. Registration can be done online Monday even though most public offices will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Last day for walk-in registration is Feb. 6.

Monday is the deadline for Washington residents to register online or via mail in time to vote in the Feb. 14 special election, if they haven’t registered or updated their address yet.

Jan. 16 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which means there won’t be any mail service on that holiday, so mail-in registration must be postmarked before then.

Residents can register to vote or update their address online at www.myvote.wa.gov. Register online using the MyVote feature on Jan. 16, even though it’s a holiday.

Feb. 6 is the deadline to register in person at county elections departments in time for the February 14 election. This deadline is meant for Washington citizens who haven’t registered to vote yet and want to take part in next month’s election.

Counties are sending out military and overseas ballots by Jan. 15 for the February election.
