The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 20

• A San Juan deputy received a report of trespassing. A witness who reportedly saw the suspect on the property refused to provide a statement to the deputy.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a fraud incident in the Eastsound area. The victim had fraudulent charges to an Amazon account. The deputy authored a report for the victim to dispute the charges with Amazon.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an agency assist. The incident was documented.

Aug. 21

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a request to trespass a person from a local business. The trespass letter was completed and issued to the involved party.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a trespass incident in the Eastsound area. The reporting party wanted an unwanted person to be trespassed from their property. The incident was documented.

• A San Juan deputy responded to Peace Island Medical Center for a report of a domestic dispute. The victim was found to have severe injuries from an assault by their significant other. A deputy located the suspect on Aug. 24 and arrested him for multiple charges without incident.

Aug. 22

• A Lopez pedestrian was bitten by a dog. The dog’s owner was located, and necessary information was obtained. A report was completed.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of found property. An out-of-state identification card was entered into evidence as found property.

• A deputy took a report of an individual making racially charged comments at a local food share service on San Juan Island. The incident was documented, and the organization’s management is considering next steps.

• Orcas Island deputies responded to a death investigation on Shaw Island. The investigation revealed no suspicious activity.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a trespass incident in the Eastsound area. The reporting party wanted an unwanted person to be trespassed from their property. The incident was documented.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for driving left of center. The driver was arrested for DUI and possession of a controlled substance. This investigation is ongoing.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of an unwanted person. An individual was located in a dumpster and was taken into protective custody for treatment.

Aug. 23

• A Lopez deputy responded to a traffic hazard, the fourth hazard in the same area over the past 10 days. Mental health professionals have been contacted to assist the involved person.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding in Moran State Park, 41 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 41 mph in a 25 mph zone, and no proof of insurance.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for failing to yield the right-of-way, having expired registration over two months and having no proof of insurance.

• A deputy on Orcas Island recovered stolen property, effected a non-custodial arrest for driving while suspended in the third degree and issued a notice of infraction for no proof of insurance.

• Unknown suspects attempted to burglarize a business in the Lopez Village during the early morning hours. The investigation continues.

• An Orcas Island deputy observed a parking problem at the West Sound County Dock. A vessel was observed mooring overnight in a posted “Day Use Only” area. The deputy issued a $250 infraction for unlawful mooring of a vessel.

Aug. 24

• A San Juan deputy located a felony assault suspect driving a vehicle. The driver was arrested for assault in the second degree – domestic violence, driving while license suspended in the third degree and driving without an ignition interlock device.

• An Orcas Island deputy observed a parking problem at the West Sound County Dock. A vessel was observed mooring overnight in the posted “Day Use Only” area. The deputy issued a $250 infraction for the unlawful mooring of a vessel.

Aug. 25

• A deputy on Orcas Island was dispatched for possible illegal camping on public property. A different subject was assisted with loading a kayak.

A deputy on Orcas conducted a welfare check on an Orcas resident. The resident was found to be in good health.

• A deputy was dispatched to a littering complaint on Orcas Island. It was referred to Code Enforcement.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to an unwanted person complaint. The subject was warned to stay away from the property in question.

• A Lopez resident reported hit-and-run damage to their vehicle. The damage occurred while the vehicle was parked at a local business.

• The Sheriff’s Office received a set of lost and found rings. The items were entered into the evidence system.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of suspicious mail. An in-custody individual from another state sent a letter to San Juan County that did not make logical sense. The deputy spoke with the out-of-state county jail and learned that this individual has sent out approximately 100 letters.

• A deputy on San Juan Island conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Roche Harbor Road. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding, 70 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. A report was completed.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of found property. A bank card was found in Friday Harbor was was turned into the Sheriff’s Office. Contact information for the owner was unable to be located. The card was placed into evidence as found property.

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. One person was taken into custody and was booked into the San Juan County Jail for assault in the fourth degree – domestic violence. A report was completed.

Aug. 26

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a missing person complaint. The missing person was found to have overstayed their camping trip on the island.

• The Sheriff’s Office issued an infraction for a vehicle parked on the public sidewalk on Coho Drive. The vehicle was also posted for a 72-hour tow if not removed from public access.

• A deputy on San Juan Island transported an in-custody individual to the ER at Peace Health. Hospital staff conducted multiple tests and determined that the individual was clear to return to jail. A report was completed.

• A deputy on Orcas Island arrested a person with an out-of-county arrest warrant.
