Tragedy inspires fundraiser for carbon monoxide detectors

Submitted San Juan Island EMS

After the tragic and untimely deaths of Kelli Ashcraft and Troy Sullivan, a GoFundMe account was set up in memoriam of Kelli, by her family, to provide the community with free carbon monoxide detectors. So far, $22,300 has been raised for CO detectors.

The GoFundMe has been transferred to the San Juan Island EMT Association’s 501(c)(3) for those who wish to have a tax benefit. It will go directly to purchasing carbon monoxide detectors from Browne’s Lumber. Browne’s has arranged an agreement with First Alert, who is selling the detectors at cost for this cause.

The GoFundMe states, “We are raising money for a campaign in Kelli’s name to purchase Carbon Monoxide awareness for free to households that do not have them here in the San Juan Islands. We will be working with a local hardware store and professional installer to make sure that households that need this safety feature will get them installed.”

The San Juan Island Fire Department has generously offered to provide installation upon request. If you would like to contribute to the fund visit, www.gofundme.com/in-memory-of-kelli-ashcraft.
