Town to flush downtown water lines

Submitted by the Town of Friday Harbor

The Town of Friday Harbor will flush water lines in the downtown core Thursday, Feb. 26 through Friday, Feb. 27. Per state Department of Health regulations, lines must be flushed semi-annually to remove accumulated minerals and sediment in the water distribution lines. Crews will perform the work at night when water usage is low and streets are clear as large amounts of water will flow through gutters and across some streets.

Those using water at this time may notice brief water discoloration, cloudiness, or slight pressure fluctuations. While there is no known health concern associated with this process, those in the downtown core should avoid running taps, washing machines, and dishwashers during flushing. Check for discolored water before using these appliances and run cold water until water is clear. Rewash any laundry washed in discolored water; do not dry items until clean. If pressure remains low, check faucet screens for trapped particles.

Questions about water line flushing should be directed to the Water Department at 360-821-4736 or Public Works Director Mike Liptack at mikel@fridayharbor.org.
