Town receives another award for high water quality

Submitted by the Town of Friday Harbor

The Town of Friday Harbor has received the Washington State Department of Health silver award for consistently exceeding water quality standards every month for more than five years. This is the second such award the Town has received.

The Town’s water department voluntarily participates in the state’s stringent Treatment Optimization Program which challenges operators to exceed national standards for water quality. Award winners must maintain extreme water clarity, known as low turbidity, while simultaneously complying with every other measurement of water quality without exception. Turbidity is considered one of the most dependable tests for confirming the removal of potential pathogenic organisms from water.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have highly skilled and dedicated water treatment plant operators producing our drinking water,” said Town Administrator Denice Kulseth, noting that they must meet additional challenges that come with maintaining a rapid filtration system for surface-supplied water. “Every day we see how much our crew cares about the safety of the community.”

Water customers are asked to contact the Town directly at (360) 378-2810 with any questions or concerns about their water.
