Town gives a tip of the hat to local businesses

In honor of small businesses, and just in time for the holiday season, during the regular Town Council meeting on Nov. 20, the Town of Friday Harbor Mayor Ray Jackson proclaimed Nov. 29 as Small Business Saturday.

The full proclamation reads as follows:

Let’s keep the cheer here! Celebrate and support small businesses

and all they do for Friday Harbor and San Juan Island!

WHEREAS, this year’s Friday Harbor Winterfest commences with Small Business

Saturday, followed by the Friday Harbor Christmas Tree Lighting and Santa’s Workshop,

and many more festive events throughout December, celebrating the holiday season; and

WHEREAS, we celebrate and honor our local small businesses and the contributions they

make to our economy and community; and

WHEREAS, local island businesses employ approximately 85 percent of the work force

across the private sector of San Juan County; and

WHEREAS, San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce, the Town, and local businesses

actively partner in local initiatives and sponsor events designed to provide a more robust

economy on San Juan Island; and

WHEREAS, on average $70 for every $100 spent stays in the community by shopping at

local stores and participating in events;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Raymont C. Jackson, do hereby proclaim November 29th,

2025 as

Small Business Saturday

in the Town of Friday Harbor and call upon the people of Friday Harbor and our neighbors

throughout San Juan County to support our small businesses and merchants on this day

and throughout the year.
