Town of Friday Harbor Public Works employees recently completed hands-on confined space safety and rescue training as part of the Town’s ongoing commitment to employee and public safety. The training, led by Wastewater Supervisor and certified confined spaces instructor Joe Pasic, focused on recognizing hazards, following established safety procedures, and practicing safe entry and rescue techniques in environments such as vaults, manholes and other enclosed work areas.
As part of the training, employees practiced rescue scenarios using a tripod rescue system, allowing crews to safely retrieve a worker from a confined space without placing additional personnel at risk. The exercise reinforced proper equipment use, communication and coordination during high-risk situations.
“Safety is not a one-time effort,” said Mike Liptack, Town Public Works director. “Regular training like this ensures our staff are prepared to do their jobs safely and respond effectively when conditions are challenging. Ongoing safety training protects our employees and helps ensure reliable services for the community.”
