Submitted by the Town of Friday Harbor
The Town of Friday Harbor has issued a town-wide burn ban until further notice on recreational fires and cooking fires. This is in addition to the year-round ban on outdoor burning. Cooking fires previously approved through a Town permit and self-contained natural gas or propane appliances such as heaters, barbecues, and grill units are allowed.
This ban is in response to the July 21 declaration of high fire danger in the unincorporated areas of San Juan County by the San Juan County Fire Marshal, in partnership with local Fire Districts, due to current and predicted dry weather conditions. Outdoor burning is generally prohibited year-round within town limits in accordance with state law. Friday Harbor Municipal Code Chapter 9.16 (https://www.codepublishing.com/WA/FridayHarbor/#!/FridayHarbor09/FridayHarbor0916.html) addresses current regulations and allowable activities and defines a “recreational” fire.
“The Town appreciates and depends on the cooperation of residents and visitors in keeping the community safe from fire,” said Town Fire Marshal Ryan Ericson. For more information on town fire regulations, contact the Town at 360-378-2810.
