Tim Lance benefit dinner, May 25

A benefit dinner for Friday Harbor’s Tim Lance is planned for Friday, May 25, at the Mullis Center.

Lance, a fixture in the local music scene and former Marketplace dairy manager, is recovering from a life-threatening staph infection, MRSA, which he contracted during a nine-day stay at a mainland hospital following surgery for severe stomach pains early this year. He reportedly had lost 40 pounds because of the abdominal pain prior to surgery.

Laid-off from work late last year and lacking medical insurance, Lance’s medical bills at this point exceed $100,000 and more are expected, according to close friends. Proceeds from the benefit dinner will be used to help offset payments and medical costs.

Lance and girlfriend Tami Derby moved to San Juan Island in 2009.

The fundraiser features dinner by donation, of tacos and enchiladas, an auction and a dessert auction, and live musical entertainment. For info, contact Connie Shaw, 378-0963.
