This summer San Juan Island is hosting “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [abridged]” an hour and a half parody show that will be performed twice a week throughout the summer. Showtimes and location can be found at tideoftimestheatre.org.

Ty Boice heads Tide of Times Theatre Company, and a sense of adventure attracted him to the islands, after spending half a decade producing theatre in Portland with his wife Cassandra.

“It was chance to tackle some intriguing challenges in a gorgeous setting,” Boice said. “We decided that if we ever wanted to explore now was the time to do it, before or son Keaton starts school.”

“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [abridged]” features Boice two other six-year I-5 corridor veteran actors. Boice’s commitment to the success of the production shines through in his performance. His ability to thoroughly represent the character of the works of Shakespeare in such a condensed holds the audience captive.

Kyle Henick debuts for the Tide of Times Theatre Company this year. Henick’s performance In “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [abridged]?” offers a humorous intimacy that will suspend your disbelief no matter how out of place, or out of context his presence seems. Henick is so committed to the characters it would be impossible to not become emotionally invested in his comedic performance.

“One of the characters refers to ‘trimming the fat’ off of Shakespeare’s work, and I think what that actually means is simply showing the heart of his stories. Obviously, it’s silly and irreverent at times, but the biggest difference between this play and traditional Shakespeare is that we don’t focus as much on the language.”

Alongside Henick is another I-5 corridor veteran Chip Sherman premiering for the Tide of Times Theatre Company. As an actor and dancer Sherman brings an infectious charisma that leads the audience through the show. His ability to ad lib with focus and intent allows the transitions from act to act to be seamless and fun. His presence on stage is certainly larger than his stature, so he cannot be missed.

“Most of Shakespeare’s famous characters are archetypes that were around prior to his works. You have the lovers, the villains, the father or mother figures, the drunks, the mischievous, etc,” Sherman said. “And they are all still around to this date. So, it actually makes sense for Romeo to be Ted from Bill and Ted’s excellent adventure because he shares that innocence and zest for love/life that Romeo does.”

After working in Portland Theatre for 6 years Boice and his family moving forward with there adventures in theatre and life here on the island.

“It was chance to tackle some intriguing challenges in a gorgeous setting,” Boice said. “We decided that if we ever wanted to explore now was the time to do it, before or son Keaton starts school.”
