A statue of baby Jesus, reported stolen Nov. 30 from the nativity scene in front of Second Act, was returned Sunday.

Employees found the statue at the store, wrapped in a bag, with a note that read, “Sorry, I just needed a little Jesus in my life. Merry Christmas.”

Lori Narum, an employee of the store, said Monday, “Baby Jesus has been returned and all is right in Friday Harbor.”

When the statue was discovered missing, Narum supposed that the person who took the little statue was motivated more by a spirit in need than by a mean spirit.

Removing the statue of the baby Jesus from the nativity scene in front of Second Act certainly took some faith, if not courage — the site is, after all, across the street from the Sheriff’s Department and the County Courthouse.

To encourage the statue’s return, Narum said no questions would be asked.

“We’re hoping for a Christmas miracle,” she said.

Sunday, her prayers were answered.
