Soundwatch boat has ‘catastrophic failure’; fund-raiser Saturday

The Soundwatch Program had what director Kari Koski terms “catastrophic failure” on June 11. The team's boat — what it needs most to do its job — needs a new outdrive and supercharger.

Soundwatch, a program of The Whale Museum, monitors and educates those on the water about the appropriate way to act around whales. Soundwatch also collects data on whales and boat traffic.

Soundwatch needs to raise $11,000 to cover its boat repair bill. A fund-raiser potluck barbecue is scheduled Saturday, 6 p.m., at Snug Harbor. At the same time, Snug Harbor will have an open house for its newly renovated cabins, and Soundwatch will introduce its new program, “K.E.L.P” (kayak education and leadership program).
