Soroptimist participating in Savor the San Juans during San Juan Island Farm Tours

Submitted by Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor.

Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor will hold a fundraiser, Savor the Sounds of the San Juans, on Friday, Sept. 22, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Pelindaba Lavender Farm. Pelindaba is graciously donating their venue, live music, and lavender treats to support Soroptimist’s Cancer Treatment Transportation Fund.

Entertainment will be provided by the wonderful group, Kubutana Marimba. Available for purchase will be Lavender Ice Cream, Lemonade and Tea, Gourmet Hot Dogs, Popcorn, Baked Goods, Charcuterie Cups, Mocktails and Water.

The farm is open to the public and there is no cost for admission, but donations to the fund will be welcome at the event, as well as online. Proceeds from sales of food and drinks will go directly to CTTF.

The Soroptimist Cancer Treatment Transportation Fund provides ferry tickets to those who need to travel to the mainland for chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments regardless of gender, age, or income. There is no limit on the assistance a single person may receive. We also coordinate with the Eagles, who will fly patients to Bellingham or Skagit at no charge, weather permitting.

Since January 2023, we have provided ferry tickets for twelve new community members and have continued providing ferry tickets for the seventeen patients who requested ferry tickets in 2022. Although that number seems small, many need to travel several times a week resulting in the purchase of 2,017 car/driver tickets and 1,500 passenger tickets thus far in 2023.

We hope you will join us for a relaxing time in the lavender fields with friends where you can enjoy good music, munch on delicious food and have tasty drinks, all while supporting our efforts to help fellow islanders deal with off island transportation during their treatment programs.
