The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
July 30
• A Lopez deputy responded to a vandalism call. Evidence was discovered of a late-night vehicle driving recklessly on the golf course. The course sustained damage to the landscaping, flag poles and sprinkler system. The incident is under investigation.
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of fraud on Orcas Island. The victim reported a monetary loss and provided information to the deputy. This investigation is ongoing.
• A silver ring was found in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office and turned in. The ring was placed in the property and evidence room.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a citizen dispute. A neighbor complained when they discovered a fellow neighbor mowing a lawn that borders both properties. The incident was documented.
• A credit card was found on San Juan Island and turned into the Sheriff’s Office. The card was placed in the property room.
• A San Juan deputy observed someone with active warrants at a local business. The individual was arrested during a subsequent traffic stop and was booked into jail.
July 31
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of threats. The described incident did not appear to support probable cause that a crime had been committed.
• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a domestic disturbance. It was determined that no assault took place. This report is for information only.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was using a mobile phone while driving in downtown Eastsound. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for using a personal electronic device while driving and operating a vehicle without current registration.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was issued a citation for driving while license suspended in the second degree.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an animal noise incident in the Eastsound area. After the deputy investigated the incident, a verbal warning was issued to the dog owner. The incident was documented.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a citizen dispute involving a potential road rage incident. The deputy located the vehicle and observed it driving left of center, at one point driving completely in the oncoming lane. The driver was arrested for DUI and obstructing.
Aug. 1
• A Lopez business reported possible fraud regarding a hacked payment to a Friday Harbor bookkeeping service. The matter is under investigation.
• A Lopez resident reported an item missing from a delivered package. It is unknown where or when the theft occurred.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the owner had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was issued a citation for driving while license suspended in the third degree.
• An Orcas Island deputy removed an abandoned vehicle from the North Beach Public Access parking area. The incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 51 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Mt. Baker Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and given a verbal warning for other infractions.
Aug. 2
• An Orcas Island deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist call. The incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a protection order violation. An investigation took place, and a review of the protection order was conducted. It was revealed that no violation of the protection order occurred. The incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Mt. Baker Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed and expired registration greater than two months.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a welfare check in the Eastsound area for a person screaming. The deputy learned that the person was experiencing a bad trip from using psychedelic substances. The incident was documented.
Aug. 3
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a suspicious incident in the Eastsound area. The deputy investigated a vehicle that was left unattended in the middle of the road and was not able to locate the driver. The vehicle was towed, and the registered owner was notified. The incident was documented.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a death investigation. The investigation revealed no suspicious activity.
Aug. 4
• A Friday Harbor woman was issued a dog-at-large infraction for the second offense.
• A deputy on Orcas Island collected a found purse. It was later returned to its owner.
• A deputy on Orcas Island was dispatched to a neighbor dispute. The dispute was found to be civil.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a report of a lost juvenile in Olga. The juvenile was reunited with his mother.
• Lopez deputies responded to a domestic dispute. There was no evidence of a crime. Deputies stood by while personal belongings were collected.
• A deputy on Orcas Island received a complaint regarding drone activity. A report was taken.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a fraud complaint. A message appeared on the victim’s computer saying it had been “hacked.” The scammer, posing as “Apple Support,” coerced the victim into providing banking and credit card information.
• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a reported domestic disturbance. The individuals were contacted, and it was determined that no crime had been committed. The parties agreed to separate voluntarily for the evening. The incident was documented.
Aug. 5
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who conducted a burnout and began to drift their vehicle on Olga Road. The driver was subsequently issued a citation for reckless driving.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a report of an individual illegally dumping yard waste at a local park. The incident was investigated, and the suspect was later located and questioned at her home. The incident was documented.
• A deputy on Lopez received a report of a missing person. An investigation demonstrated that the person was safe.
• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of theft from a store in town, which was caught on camera. The suspects left the area before the deputy arrived. A report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of a non-injury accident in Friday Harbor. The incident occurred when one driver was backing out of their parking spot and hit the truck next to them, which was parked slightly over the white line. A report was completed.
Aug. 6
• Two Oregon youth were contacted at the Friday Harbor ferry landing regarding a theft from the previous day at The Pebble. Both youths were identified and trespassed from The Pebble, and a report is being forwarded to the prosecuting attorney for charges.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a report of a citizen dispute. The incident was documented.
Aug. 7
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to an unwanted-person complaint. The complainant wished to have someone trespassed from their properties. The deputy drafted trespass warning letters and sent them for service.
