The SeaDoc Society & YMCA Camp Orkila present “Shorebirds, predators, and the role of fear” with Dr. Rob Butler, March 10, at Emmanuel Episcopal Parish Hall on Orcas Island. Come hear about how these birds make spectacular journeys through our backyard. The free lecture begins at 7 p.m.

The Salish Sea is one of the most important sites for shorebirds that migrate along the “Pacific Flyway.” The relationship between the number of predators and the availability of ample food, decide where birds can stop to refuel and where they cannot.

Butler will talk about shorebirds and the effect that predators like peregrine falcons have on how shorebirds use their habitat.
